Who wrote this. We're HonestFarewell, so we're one of the sites on this page. We aren't affiliated with DFS Memorials, and DFS Memorials hasn't reviewed this page. Facts about DFS Memorials come from its own public pages, checked October 26, 2026, linked at the end.

Funeral homes can pay us for a labelled "Sponsored" listing, but no one can pay to change our price lists or the order of homes. If something here is out of date, email hello@honestfarewell.org and we'll fix it.

If you found DFS Memorials, you're probably looking for a simple, low-cost cremation. That's a good place to start, and it helps to know how it works so you can compare with confidence.

How DFS Memorials works

DFS Memorials isn't a funeral home. It's a referral network: it lists one featured provider on each city page, with a published direct cremation price that the provider agrees to honor. You pay the provider directly. The provider pays DFS a fixed fee for each referral, and DFS says homes can't pay for higher placement.

It says it has more than 80 providers in 42 states and 3 Canadian provinces. Its city prices note that some areas add county permit or death certificate fees.

Other ways to compare direct cremation prices

DFS shows you one featured provider on each city page. If you'd like to see more homes side by side, here's where to look.

HonestFarewell (that's us). Our direct cremation pages show every home we've checked in an area, with its own price and the date we checked it. In Los Angeles, DFS lists one provider at $1,045. Our Los Angeles page shows 55 checked price lists, with direct cremation from $1,030 to $5,650. Our prices are each home's direct cremation line; ask what it includes. We cover 85 metro areas in 10 states so far.

Funeralocity. Compares a direct cremation package for providers across the US.

Parting.com. Lets you filter funeral homes by direct cremation and compare their estimated costs.

The funeral home itself. Ask any home for its General Price List and look for its direct cremation line.

What to ask about any direct cremation price

  • Is the crematory fee included, or charged separately?
  • Is there a charge for refrigeration, and when would it apply?
  • What does the price include for the container, the death certificate and the permit?

How to choose any funeral site

Whichever site you use, four questions tell you how much to trust what you see:

  • Who pays the site? Most funeral sites are paid by funeral homes in some way. That's fine, as long as they tell you how.
  • Can paying move a home up the list? If it can, the first homes you see may not be the cheapest or the closest.
  • Where do the prices come from, and when? A price from the home's own price list, with a date, is the one to trust. An estimate or an average is a starting point.
  • Can you see a price without giving your details? You shouldn't have to hand over a phone number to learn what something costs.

And whatever any site shows, the law is on your side. Funeral homes must give you written price lists, and you don't have to accept a package that includes things you don't want (FTC, "Shopping for Funeral Services").

How HonestFarewell works, for both sides. Families get checked prices, guides and a planner for free. Funeral homes can claim their listing for free, and once we've checked a claim, requests from up to 5 families a month come straight to that home.

Paid listings are labelled "Sponsored". We never charge a home for a family's request, and no payment changes a home's prices or where it ranks. Our Advertiser Disclosure (opens in a new tab) explains it in full.
