Many people come to HonestFarewell in the days after a death, or while planning for one. We know a careless email or image can hurt at a time like that. These are the rules we hold ourselves to.
Messages we send you
- We only message you if you asked us to, and only about what you asked for.
- If you're arranging a funeral now, we send nothing but what you requested for 72 hours. No offers, no insurance, no partner content.
- We never send "on this day" messages, anniversary reminders or "we miss you" emails.
- If you told us a date that matters, such as the date someone died, we don't send any promotional messages in the week before or after it.
- We never guess at dates, and we never look up obituaries or public records to market to you.
- Every marketing message lets you pause for a while or stop for good, in one click.
What partners can show on our site
Funeral homes and law firms that pay for a Premium listing can add photos and text. We review everything before it appears.
- We never publish a photo of a person who has died.
- Anyone recognizable in a photo must have agreed to be shown.
- Partners can't claim to be "the best" or "the cheapest" unless we can check it, and they can't use pressure or fear to sell.
Paying for a listing never changes how homes are ordered or what prices we show. Sponsored places are always labeled.
What we show and how we write
- No sign-up walls or pop-ups on the pages you use while arranging a funeral.
- No countdown timers, "only today" offers or fear-based selling.
- No photos of grieving people or of the dead, and no AI-generated people presented as real.
Information about a death
- We ask only for what a feature needs, and we never ask for a cause of death or health information.
- We don't put it in our site statistics or advertising tools, and we don't sell it or use it to target ads. One exception: when you look for a funeral home and say you need one as soon as possible, our own site statistics count that answer, with nothing that identifies you.
- We pass it to a funeral home or other provider only when you ask them to contact you.
- You can ask us to delete it at any time: privacy@honestfarewell.org.
If we get it wrong
Tell us at hello@honestfarewell.org. We'll stop the message or take the content down first, then look into what happened.
