Paperwork before a cremation

West Virginia requires authorization before final disposition. When the body is to be cremated, a separate cremation authorization must be obtained from the appropriate medical examiner, county medical examiner, or county coroner. The state's ordinary final-disposition authorization and its cremation-specific medical authorization work together. A funeral home may therefore need more paperwork for cremation than for another form of disposition.
