Funeral and cremation law in Florida
Who decides, what has to wait, and what a funeral home must tell you. Every fact links to its statute. Not legal advice.

- Time limits: embalming, refrigeration or disposition
Florida regulates funeral, cemetery, cremation, and direct-disposition services through Chapter 497. One important preservation rule is easy to understand: a dead human body generally may not be held for more than 24 hours after death or while awaiting final disposition unless it is refrigerated at 40°F or below, embalmed, or otherwise preserved in a manner approved by the licensing authority.
